Netcool XSM Training

The Netcool/XSM course, including Netcool/ASMs, Netcool/SM Operations and Netcool/ISMs, covers all aspects of installation, administration, configuration and customisation of Netcool/XSMs. The course focuses on the development, deployment, configuration and management of Netcool/SSM agents from the administrator's perspective. Students start by installing the Netcool/SSM application on their own server, covering all standard configuration tasks, and then move onto System and Application subagent configuration. As the course develops, the emphasis will shift towards customizing alarm rules and the remote deployment and configuration via Netcool/SM Operations. The class concludes with a day focused on installation and configuration of Netcool ISMs.

Objectives / Certifications

Upon completion of this course, each student will gain an understanding of the advanced administration and configuration options available within the Netcool/XSM suite.

Day 1: Course Overview and Netcool/SSM Installation & Configuration
Day 2: Netcool/ASMs & Advanced Configuration Netcool/ASM Oracle Netcool/ASM Apache Advanced Configuration
Day 3: Netcool/SM Operations Installation & Configuration, Administration & Reporting
Day 4: Netcool/ISMs Overview, Installation & Configuration

Prerequisites

Attendees should be able to:

• Navigate the Windows/UNIX directory structure
• UNIX (Solaris or Linux) file manipulation and editing
• Use basic tools (ps, telnet, ftp, top, Windows Task Manager, etc)
• Troubleshoot User and Group accounts within Windows/UNIX
• Diagnose and resolve the cause of a software problem

Attendees should possess an understanding of:

• Navigate the Windows/UNIX directory structureNetcool/OMNIbus v3.
• Configuration of probe rules files (mttrapd probe, and NCiL include libraries)
• SNMP and RMON
• TCP/IP
• Windows domains
• Basic shell scripting or programming
